MyContacts Ready For Download

Download MyContacts

Needing a contact manager that was accessable anywhere, without all of the extra junk, I opted to write my own, MyContacts. I thought it might be handy for others so I’m releasing it under the GNU General Public License (w00t! open source!)

Check Out Clam Antivirus

Posted November 2nd, 2003 in Linux, News by Tobias

Open AntiVirus:

I received a reply this morning from a posting on one of Security Focus‘ mailing lists from Tomasz Papszun, a guy working on Clam AntiVirus.
Clam AntiVirus is an anti-virus toolkit for UNIX. The main purpose of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded daemon, a command line scanner, and a tool for automatic updating via Internet. The programs are based on a shared library distributed with the Clam AntiVirus package, which you can use with your own software. The virus database is based on the virus database from OpenAntiVirus, but contains additional signatures (including signatures for popular polymorphic viruses, too) and is KEPT UP TO DATE.

This is one of the best projects I’ve seen in a while, so check ’em out by visiting their page, http://clamav.sourceforge.net.

See it HERE.

And the other article is on how to authenticate OSX against Active Directory without altering your schema, without buying third-party software, or adding a OSX server.
See it HERE.

And remember, all articles are up for discussion in the forums.

New Site Is Up

Posted November 2nd, 2003 in News by Tobias

Well the new site went up this weekend. I think that I have most of the bugs worked out thus far. I know that the chat and reviews links don’t go anywhere yet and I’m working on the download datebase, too. But if you find anything else please let me know so I can fix it.

  • Please post bugs HERE
  • If you’d like to see the old site for some reason, I’ve archived it HERE
  • Like the new site? Hate it? Let me know. Vote HERE

New Site Going Up

Posted November 2nd, 2003 in News by Tobias

Well the migration to the new site is going ok. I got alot of the forums imported last night, although most of the posts have dates in May. I’ve got some of the member’s accounts imported, too. If you currently have an account on the old site and can’t login to the new site, send me an email and I’ll get you fixed up first.

I should have most of the old articles ported over to the site by next week. I’ve decided to merge Fat of the LAN and Fat of the LAN Tech back into one site. What can I say, I’m lazy.

This webserver is now up and running on RedHad Linux. Wow, what a difference in performance! Much faster now. Not the easiest OS to configure, but well worth the time.
