Open AntiVirus:

I received a reply this morning from a posting on one of Security Focus‘ mailing lists from Tomasz Papszun, a guy working on Clam AntiVirus.
Clam AntiVirus is an anti-virus toolkit for UNIX. The main purpose of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded daemon, a command line scanner, and a tool for automatic updating via Internet. The programs are based on a shared library distributed with the Clam AntiVirus package, which you can use with your own software. The virus database is based on the virus database from OpenAntiVirus, but contains additional signatures (including signatures for popular polymorphic viruses, too) and is KEPT UP TO DATE.

This webserver is now up and running on RedHad Linux. Wow, what a difference in performance! Much faster now. Not the easiest OS to configure, but well worth the time.

I know it seems strange for someone who’s pursuing an MCSE to jump ship from IIS and load Apache webserver, but hey, I’m realistic. I’m tired of loading service pack after service pack just to keep the latest worm or exploit at bay. And I’m really tired of patching files to make them run under IIS when they run under everything else just fine. So, there you go, sorry Bill. This also means that I’ll be putting more how to’s up soon. It shouldn’t take to long to put them together, I should have more time now that I’m not patching IIS ; )
